Ebbor Gorge Beef

Come to us for delicious, nutrient dense, properly good beef

Who we are

We are Neil and Lottie (and Fred)

Since moving here in 2018 we have transformed this small part of the Mendip Hills from an exhausted sheepwreck to a paradise for wildlife by creating over 7 miles of scrub strip, planting 10,000+ trees and shrubs, restoring dew ponds and mob grazing our pastures, while producing some damn tasty Ruby Red beef along the way, the kind of beef that can silence even the noisiest of family gatherings! Ours is a small business, with 6 or 7 bodies of beef for sale each year. We only sell beef from animals which have been born and raised on the farm.

We don't deliver or courier. You have to come to the farm to collect the bounty. This has resulted in a lovely community of customers who turn up for our beef days come rain or shine. Their one unifying characteristic being that they care deeply about their food, the animals who provided it and the environment and the impact that farming can have upon it.

Please get in touch if you would like to become one of those customers!

What we stand for

We have two objectives:

1) to produce the tastiest, most nutrient dense beef that we possibly can; and

2) to encourage nature and wildlife to flourish, both above and below ground.

Thankfully these two objectives go hand in hand.

How do we do it?

1) Not using chemicals, either on the soil or pasture, or on or in our livestock.

2) Spending a lot of time with our cattle, and getting to know them individually. This means that we spot early signs of anyone being out of sorts and remedy it before it becomes a problem, using homeopathy, herbs and browse. We only use antibiotics as a last resort, and this has thankfully been rare to date. We do not vaccinate our cattle and use no routine medications.

If you have questions please get in touch ... we are happy to explain more about what we do and why we do it. There are opportunities during the year to come to the farm and meet the cattle, hear the dawn chorus or learn to identify wildflowers and plants. Everyone is welcome.
