Springtree Dexter Beef

My Springtree herd of  pedigree Dexter cattle produce great tasting organic beef. They graze on 60 acres of permanent pasture that is being restored to Species Rich Grassland with the help of a Higher Level Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The Dexter herd play a key role in this transformation with low stocking densities and rotational grazing with long rest periods allowing wild flowers and diverse grass species to establish. This is already enhancing the biodiversity of the farm providing more habitat for many species including insects and farmland birds.

The species rich pasture gives my Dexters a diverse and nutrient rich diet that fulfils all their nutritional needs. The herd is kept as one big family group for most of the year where they are able to display all their natural behaviours. They come in for a short period during the wettest months of the winter and are fed on home grown hay but are then back in the fields ready for Spring calving.

My Dexter cattle grow slowly to produce quality beef that is tender with a fine texture and a distinctive traditional flavour and is certified Organic with the Soil Association.

I take my home produced cattle at approximately 30 months old to a small abattoir and the beef is then hung for 21 days  to enhance the tenderness and flavour before it is professionally butchered and vacuum packed.

Beef is available as a selection of  joints, steaks and mince in our great value beef boxes or can be purchased as individual cuts. Beef is frozen on the day of collection from the butcher unless pre ordered as chilled.
