Why Pasture for Life? What does it mean to you?

I've always been involved in pasture based livestock enterprises and for me it just makes sense. Ruminants doing what they do best. I always find PfL farmers are the most thoughtful and adaptive and hopefully that rubs off on me as a person.

What’s your story around food and farming? Why you, and why now?

Well, my grandparents started me off with their small mixed farm. They really focussed on grass and were using electric fences in the early 1980's. I grew up thinking it was the norm to always be doing something with temporary electric wire, definitely why I enjoy it still now.
All my jobs have had a livestock connection, especially ruminants and with all of the concerns for the future, a pasture based system for grazing livestock I think is a huge part of the solutions we really need.

If you had a magic wand, what would you use it for to change food and farming for the better?

End of non-stun slaughter of livestock

What makes you happiest when you meet up with PfL members in your area?

I think PfL members are just super company. Friendly, supportive of each other, inspiring and each of them gives me a little bit of hope for the future

What’s your bugbear that we might encounter one day?

Litter - why do folks think its acceptable? And my local York Council spraying off the grass round trees, posts, pavement edges etc. And don't worry, I'm constantly challenging them on why on earth they do this...? They can't actually come up with a good response.

Sheep or cattle? If neither, tell us what farm animal appeals to you the most.

Cattle for sure, multipurpose native breeds all the way, win:win!

Favourite biscuit? Specify whether you dunk it or not.

All of them! Never dunked!

Favourite pet ever? Name and type

Current dog. Parson Russell Terrier Max in the photo here. I don't think you can beat a terrier...

Worst job ever: no names, please.

Anything office based and involving lots of driving. Keep me away from desks and a steering wheel!

One unusual thing very few people know about you.

Sadly, I'm not that interesting. My go-to on these sorts of questions is that I've met King Charles 3 times.
Oh, I am running the York Marathon in October for Young Lives versus Cancer if anyone would like to sponsor me...
