Dan Smith is a tenant farmer, consultant, and regenerative systems designer based at Roots In, a 200-acre farm and consultancy hub in Monmouthshire. His work is rooted in value-driven, holistic management of low-input beef, sheep, and arable systems, always in partnership with nature, soil, and community.
With a deep commitment to ecological integrity and social resilience, Dan supports farms in designing complete systems that regenerate landscapes while empowering people. This ranges from small family farms to 50 farm landscape recovery schemes.

Dan’s consultancy practice is based on resilient and profitable farming models. He specialises in guiding farms through agroecological transitions, introducing frameworks that build autonomy rather than dependency. Specialising in nutrient management, government schemes, herbal leys, woodland grazing, livestock management and arable integration alongside on-farm social enterprises and inclusive governance. He has previously managed regenerative farms and acted as a conservation grazier for the Woodland Trust and National Trust.
At the roots of his work is a belief in people and place. He sees farming not just as a profession, but as a cultural and ecological responsibility. Through Roots In, Dan continues to champion regenerative agriculture as a tool for transformation, one that restores soil, empowers farmers, and reimagines the future of food.
